On January 14, 2024, Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology and Education (HCMUTE) hosted the Admission Consultation and Career Orientation Day – the 17th Annual Open Day for 2024. The event was part of the broader initiative "Decide Your Future Together" for 2024, jointly organized by the university and the Education Magazine of Ho Chi Minh City. It brought together over 10,000 students from high schools in Ho Chi Minh City and neighboring provinces.
Distinguished guests included Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thu Thuy, Head of the University Education Department at the Ministry of Education and Training; Mr. Le Duy Tan, Head of the Secondary Education Department at the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City; Mr. Nguyen Kim Luyen, Deputy Head of the Department of Political Theory at the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City; and representatives from leading universities participating in the 2024 admissions consultation.
Representatives from the organizing committee included Assoc. prof. Dr. Le Hieu Giang, Acting President of HCMUTE, and Mr. Nguyen Thanh Tu, Editor-in-Chief of Education Magazine, Ho Chi Minh City.
During the opening remarks, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Tu extended greetings to all attendees, particularly the students, stating, "Each year, over a million candidates nationwide sit for the National High School Graduation Examination, aspiring to enter universities and colleges. With the aim of aiding students in making informed choices regarding their careers and educational environments, the career orientation and admissions consultation program is conducted in collaboration with universities, colleges, and experienced professionals to assist 12th-grade students in understanding admission regulations and procedures."
The National High School Graduation Examination in 2024 signifies the culmination of the previous high school education program. Consequently, many students are apprehensive about their prospects if they do not secure admission to university this year, a concern shared by both students and parents alike.
In addressing inquiries about any changes in admission regulations for 2024 compared to 2023, Associate Professor Nguyen Thu Thuy emphasized, "We continue to adhere to the admission regulations issued by the Ministry of Education and Training in 2022 and 2023, ensuring stability for 2024. Currently, there are no plans to revise admission regulations for 2025. While changes may occur in the National High School Graduation Examination, our admission regulations remain consistent nationwide. What's crucial for students is selecting their majors and universities, with the Ministry of Education and Training providing support to streamline the admission process."
Participating students engaged in presentations covering admission procedures, quotas, training programs, and emerging fields aligned with the Industry 4.0 era. Additionally, they had the opportunity to experience a day in the life of HCMUTE students through practical activities such as chemical experiments, robotics, artificial intelligence, and drawing. This provided a platform for students to interact with current lecturers and students, gain insights into various majors, and seek guidance, facilitating informed career decisions. The Open Day not only provided valuable information for students but also garnered interest from parents regarding educational choices for their children.
Moreover, students explored an ideal green space, creative zones, and entrepreneurial hubs (BEEHIVE), along with modern self-study areas and libraries established by the university to foster post-school-hour learning and research environments. Parents and students also toured classrooms, digital learning spaces, advanced laboratory facilities, and diverse student activity zones. Through these practical tours, HCMUTE instilled confidence in its facilities, demonstrated commitment to student welfare, and promoted holistic development in collaboration with parents and students.
In 2024, HCMUTE plans to introduce enrollment for two new majors: Microchip Design Engineering and Educational Psychology. These majors aim to address contemporary societal needs, the evolving nature of modern jobs, and the demand for high-quality human resources.
