On September 26, 2024, Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology and Education (HCMUTE) signed a funding agreement for the "Learning for a Sustainable Future - Higher Education for Green Transformation in Southeast Asia" (GreenEdAsia) project. This initiative is part of the ERASMUS+ program funded by the European Union, with a total budget of 800,000 Euros.

The project will officially launch between February 17 and 23, 2025, with the goal of promoting sustainable development through higher education in Southeast Asia. This project not only reflects HCMUTE's strong commitment to environmental protection but also lays the foundation for transitioning to a green economy in the region.

The project involves six universities, including Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology and Education, Dong Thap University, HAMK University of Applied Sciences (Finland), University of Burgos (Spain), RMUTT University, and RMUTL University (Thailand). GreenEdAsia aims to raise awareness about sustainable development while equipping the younger generation with the skills needed to address global challenges caused by climate change.

GreenEdAsia is part of the effort to build a foundation for a green and sustainable economy in Southeast Asia. The project not only focuses on theory but also integrates sustainable development principles into various training fields. By developing innovative curricula, GreenEdAsia will help students not only master theoretical knowledge but also develop critical thinking and practical problem-solving skills.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hoang An Quoc, Head of the Science and Technology Department at HCMUTE and coordinator of the GreenEdAsia project, shared that since 2015, HCMUTE has participated in seven ERASMUS+ projects, and this is the first time the university has been entrusted with leading a project. ERASMUS+ international projects provide opportunities for faculty participation, thereby enhancing professional capabilities and allowing students to join exchange programs within the project framework.

As the project lead, HCMUTE affirms its pioneering position in the field of green technology education and research. GreenEdAsia will not only create opportunities for learning and research but also connect students with businesses and government agencies, helping them develop social responsibility and commitment to environmental protection goals.

"Learning for a Sustainable Future - Higher Education for Green Transformation in Southeast Asia" (GreenEdAsia)

The project will run until October 2027, during which HCMUTE will take the lead in developing curricula and promoting cooperation between domestic and international universities. This is an important step toward the green transition in Southeast Asia, and HCMUTE is proud to be part of the journey towards building a more sustainable future for the region.

Through the GreenEdAsia project, HCMUTE reaffirms its mission and vision for higher education towards a green future, contributing to the creation of future leaders capable of addressing environmental issues and making positive contributions to the sustainable development of society.
