On October 5, the HCMUTE held the opening ceremony of the new school year 2018 -2019 in the Building A Great Hall. Also the occasion was also the 56th anniversary of the establishment of the school (5/10/1962 - 5/10/2018).

On this important holiday, HCMUTE was honored to welcome the representative of our neighboring country--Mr. Vongsakhamphouy Phonesavanh - Deputy General Consulate of Laos in Ho Chi Minh City, representatives of local leading universities, colleges, more than 40s businesses, scholarship funds, companies, news agencies to share the joy of the school day.

On the traditional day, the school announced the reward of "Character of the Year" for 8 teachers who have made positive contributions and outstanding achievements in the past year.

At the ceremony, the school decided to award certificates of merit to the children along with annual scholarships from the family of Vu Dinh Hoe – to a Mechanical Engineering student and a Computer Science student with the highest score in the entrance exam. 

Besides, at the ceremony, Mr. Do Van Dung, the representative of the school, extended his gratitude to Mr. Vongsakhamphouy Phonesavanh - Deputy General Consulate of Laos in Ho Chi Minh City and Mr. Nguyen Huu Loi – officer for foreign students in Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training, those who have actively contributed to the international student recruitment process, especially to Laotian students.

As usual, the school also received scholarships and student equipment donations of up to VND 6,242,200,000 from businesses, companies, scholarships, etc. during the ceremony.

Next, the school and the CKM Department signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with SMC Corporation Vietnam and inaugurated a pneumatic laboratory (total value of VND 2.1 billion) financed by SMC to provide support for the training and development of students, staff, and lecturers in fields related compressed air.
In addition to the available self-study areas, the School Board, the School Council and the delegates cut the ribbon to open the Students Creative Space in the octagonal area (renovated from the old building which had fallen into disuse) with hopes to expand the space for students to study science and technology and create innovative student products.

The school also launched the movement of "UTE Garden" to encourage staff and students to bring the campus bright colors of flowers and plants .
