On the morning of January 21, 2024, the Vietnamese Student Association at HCMUTE organized the commencement ceremony for the 16th annual Volunteer Spring Campaign of 2024, sending off volunteers to various fronts.
Running from January 1 to February 2, 2024, the 16th Volunteer Spring Campaign saw 716 volunteers register for duty at 21 fronts, primarily in Ho Chi Minh City: Thu Duc City (Tang Nhon Phu A, Tang Nhon Phu B), Nha Be District, Cu Chi District, Can Gio District (Dao Thanh An commune), as well as at hospitals, shelters, and social support centers in the city. Activities also extended to neighboring provinces such as Ben Tre, Long An, Tien Giang, Tay Ninh, Dong Nai, Binh Duong, Binh Phuoc, Binh Thuan, and Dak Nong.
This annual campaign aims to care for orphans, the disabled, needy families, and elderly individuals living alone, particularly ensuring that impoverished students unable to return home for Tet have a warm and joyful spring.
The 16th Volunteer Spring Campaign at HCMUTE featured three core programs—"Spring Essence," "Spring Sharing," and "Spring Spreading Together with HCMUTE"—comprising 14 specific objectives.
In this year's campaign, HCMUTE volunteers will distribute 550 gifts to disadvantaged families, families of war veterans and martyrs, heroic Vietnamese mothers, and recruits. Additionally, they will organize 5 Tet meals and distribute 600 servings of porridge to the homeless in Ho Chi Minh City and neighboring provinces.
Other activities include the "Thousand Green Chung Cake" initiative, providing 1000 chung cakes and tet cakes; distributing 300 gifts to children at social facilities; organizing "Green Playground" and "Creative Playtime" activities for children at schools; promoting courses on self-defense and legal awareness; and conducting 5 career counseling sessions for high school students in the 2024 academic year. There will also be mobilization for the 2nd voluntary blood donation campaign.
The campaign also allocates resources for activities aimed at improving the aesthetics of schools and urban areas. These include setting up 2 "Spring corners" at HCMUTE dormitories, organizing 21 cleanup and beautification sessions for public facilities and historical sites, painting and repairing houses for over 30 poor households, installing 100 solar-powered lights, and implementing 10km of rural road concreteization projects, among others.
Moreover, the campaign command is actively promoting digital transformation activities, such as digitizing local historical sites and tracking soldier attendance through the Vietnamese Student app.
A notable aspect of this year's campaign is the assignment of volunteer teams to specific activities within the target system, including "Spreading Spring Team," "Essence Team," "Warrior Team," and "Integration Team."
"In this Volunteer Spring Campaign, we all feel like 'small springs,' contributing to the common good of the community and the 'shared spring' of the country. I am proud to once again wear the yellow volunteer shirt and be part of the effort to beautify our homeland." - Tran Minh Khue, a student majoring in Electronics and Telecommunications Engineering and a member of the HCMUTE Volunteer Student Club, shared.
