To enhance strategic cooperation between Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology and Education (HCMUTE) and Guhring Vietnam, the inauguration ceremony of the Guhring Cutting Tool Laboratory, sponsored by Guhring Vietnam, was held on the morning of July 25, 2025, at the E1 Building Lobby – Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, HCMUTE.

This laboratory is the result of a close and long-standing partnership between HCMUTE and Guhring Vietnam, reflecting a strong commitment to jointly training high-quality technical human resources. More than just a modern practical training space for mechanical engineering students, the laboratory exemplifies HCMUTE’s strategic direction of aligning training with real-world industry demands.

Attending the ceremony were Assoc. Prof. Dr. Truong Nguyen Luan Vu, Dean of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at HCMUTE; leaders from various faculties and departments; and lecturers of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering. From Guhring Vietnam, Mr. Andreas Goette, General Director, was joined by the company’s technical management team.

The laboratory is equipped with modern training facilities, enabling students to gain hands-on experience with advanced machining technologies that meet international standards. Equipment includes milling cutters, turning tools, drills, reamers, and specialized measuring instruments, suitable for practicing with various materials and machining processes. Guhring’s state-of-the-art precision tool technologies and tool management software are also integrated, allowing students to familiarize themselves with smart manufacturing trends and optimize machining efficiency. Additionally, the system supports cutting parameter analysis and tool performance evaluation, enabling learners to assess machining quality, identify deviations, and propose professional-level solutions.

The event also featured a technical presentation by Guhring Vietnam on the applications of Guhring’s cutting tools in modern machining, accompanied by a demonstration of hyperMILL CAM software. Guhring representatives showcased their premium cutting tools known for their precision, cutting efficiency, and outstanding durability—ideal for demanding industrial production. The presentation guided attendees on selecting appropriate tools for different machining steps and highlighted the advantages of high-speed machining.

In addition, a representative from Hoang Van Company introduced the hyperMILL programming software, which offers comprehensive programming features including toolpath simulation, collision detection, NC-code optimization, CAD data linking, and process automation through Automation Center. The live demonstration allowed the university to observe the full process from design to actual machining and understand how the software enhances surface quality, ensures safety, and optimizes performance in modern mechanical manufacturing environments.
