With the goal of enhancing training and research quality in high-tech fields such as smart agriculture, semiconductors, and microelectronics, on the morning of May 7, 2025, National Sun Yat-sen University (NSYSU) paid a visit and held a working session at Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology and Education (HCMUTE). This visit is part of HCMUTE’s strategy to expand international cooperation, aiming to increase academic exchange opportunities and develop research programs amid digital transformation and global educational integration.
This visit not only reflects NSYSU’s interest in potential collaboration with HCMUTE but also opens up opportunities for both institutions to share strategic visions, academic strengths, and research expertise, thereby paving the way for sustainable cooperative programs in the near future.
Representing HCMUTE at the meeting were Assoc. Prof. Dr. Chau Dinh Thanh – Vice President, Mr. Nguyen Thoi – Deputy Head of the Office of International Affairs, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Vu Van Phong – Deputy Head of the Office of Science and Technology, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dang Xuan Ba – Director of the Center for Smart Robotics, along with department heads, deputy heads, and lecturers from the Faculty of Electrical and Electronics Engineering.
Representing NSYSU were Prof. Wei-Chih Lin – Vice President, along with his doctoral students.

During the session, both sides presented an overview of their development orientations, training programs, and research strengths, and held in-depth discussions on future cooperation opportunities. Key highlights included plans to promote student exchange and internships through research programs funded by the Taiwanese government, particularly in smart agriculture – a highly potential field of mutual interest.
In particular, the two sides discussed the possibility of jointly implementing research projects involving sensor technologies, artificial intelligence (AI), and robotics and drone systems in monitoring, positioning, and automating agriculture, aligning with the digital transformation and sustainable development trends in the Asia-Pacific region.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Chau Dinh Thanh affirmed: “Expanding research collaboration with NSYSU not only allows HCMUTE’s lecturers and students to access an international academic environment but also contributes to producing research outcomes with high practical applications to serve society.”

Furthermore, in the context of Taiwan being a global leader in the semiconductor industry, with giants like TSMC, NSYSU’s visit and working session at HCMUTE takes on even greater significance. NSYSU’s strengths in research and education in high-tech fields—including materials science, microelectronics, and embedded systems—provide a strong foundation for HCMUTE to expand cooperation in training high-quality human resources for the semiconductor industry, a sector Vietnam is strategically prioritizing.
Connecting with a partner like NSYSU not only offers access to deep expertise across the chip manufacturing value chain but also enables HCMUTE to build student exchange programs, internships in advanced laboratories, and joint research projects on semiconductors, automation, and integrated circuits, thus enhancing the university’s training and research capabilities and aligning with global technological trends.

In addition to detailed discussions on training and research collaboration, both parties agreed on several strategic cooperation ideas for the future. Specifically, NSYSU and HCMUTE discussed the possibility of establishing a Vietnam–Taiwan Joint Research Center to promote applied science programs, technology transfer, and innovation in high-tech fields. NSYSU also introduced its international training programs with full scholarships for international students, such as master’s and doctoral programs, the INTENSE program, and the International Internship Pilot Program (IIPP) funded by Taiwan’s National Science and Technology Council (NSTC). Notably, the Taiwan International Internship Program (TIIP) was highlighted as a valuable opportunity for HCMUTE students to gain hands-on experience in international research environments. Both sides also expressed the intent to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) in the near future, laying a strong foundation for activities such as seminars, international conferences, and regular academic exchanges between the two institutions.
