Delegates revisiting the nation's heroic history through a documentary film

The event opened with a documentary film revisiting the glorious history of the nation’s resistance war for southern liberation and a retrospective of HCMUTE’s 50-year development journey. Following this, Dr. Truong Thi Hien delivered a commemorative speech:

"Half a century ago, under the brilliant leadership of the Party and our great President Ho Chi Minh, the Vietnamese people achieved a resounding victory – the historic Spring Offensive of 1975 – successfully ending the resistance war against the United States. The victory of April 30 was not only a monumental national event but also a radiant milestone in world history, affirming the power of justice, the unyielding will, and the aspiration for peace and independence."

At this time of year, Ho Chi Minh City – the beloved city named after Uncle Ho – is adorned with vibrant flags, flowers, and banners celebrating the 50th anniversary of liberation. The whole city is filled with excitement and pride. People eagerly anticipate the solemn moments of the military parade, a vivid reenactment of the nation’s heroic spirit, celebrating solidarity and the aspiration for growth.

Continuing this legacy, HCMUTE plays a pioneering role in technical, technological, and innovation-driven higher education in Vietnam. The university being designated by the Prime Minister as one of the top five public universities to be upgraded into a national key university in engineering and technology is both a source of pride and a strong reminder of its sacred mission.

As Vietnam steps into a new era — following independence, socialism, and reform — HCMUTE has identified six strategic goals to align with national progress:

Pioneering in training high-quality human resources, especially engineers, researchers, and professionals with strong expertise, creative thinking, global integration capability, and professional ethics, ready to contribute to sustainable national development.

Promoting scientific research and technology transfer, producing practical applications to support the knowledge economy, national digital transformation, and the Fourth Industrial Revolution.

Fostering an entrepreneurial and innovative ecosystem, becoming a hub for incubating ideas, supporting students and faculty in developing technological projects, and contributing to the national innovation ecosystem.

Expanding international cooperation, improving education quality to meet regional and global standards, aiming to rank among the top 201–250 universities in Asia by 2030.

Preserving and promoting national cultural identity, harmoniously integrating tradition and modernity in education to nurture well-rounded, skilled youth as advised by Uncle Ho.

Reforming university governance, enhancing management efficiency, fully digitizing teaching, learning, and research activities toward building a smart university that swiftly adapts to contemporary changes.

With more than 63 years of development, HCMUTE is always aware that educating talents and advancing science and technology is a direct contribution to building a prosperous and civilized nation. Today’s educators, staff, and students are the next generation of "soldiers" on the frontlines of education, science, and technology. Our responsibility is to continuously learn, innovate, and improve to live up to the trust placed in us by the Party, the State, and the people.
