On July 24, 2024, the Youth Union of Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology (HCMUTE) celebrated the inauguration of youth projects in Quang Truc Commune, Tuy Duc District, Dak Nong Province.
Inauguration Ceremony and Handover of National Flag Roads in Quang Truc Commune
The inauguration was attended by notable figures including Comrade Tran Viet Anh, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Youth Union and Chairman of the Dak Nong Provincial Youth Union; Comrade Nguyen Van Sang, Deputy Director of the Youth Employment Services Center of Ho Chi Minh City; Comrade Dang Thuy Khanh Van, Head of the Propaganda Department of the Party Committee of Universities and Colleges in Ho Chi Minh City; Comrade Truong Thi Hien, Secretary of the Party Committee and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of HCMUTE; and Mr. Ngo Ngoc Tuan, Deputy Director of Vietcombank’s Ky Dong branch. Local leaders, residents, and Summer Volunteer soldiers stationed in Quang Truc Commune also participated in the event.
Tuy Duc District is a remote area located on the Vietnam-Cambodia border. For nearly 20 years, HCMUTE has been actively involved in various local initiatives and campaigns, such as Loving Spring and Green Summer. This year, HCMUTE deployed two teams of volunteer students to Quang Truc Commune: one from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering & International Training Faculty and another from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering & Foreign Languages Faculty. Additionally, HCMUTE staff also took part in the campaign.
Delegates Visited A Ma Trang Long Primary School
The completed youth projects in Quang Truc Commune include:
- Two rural lighting projects on Bon Bu Prang 2 and Bon Bu Prang 2A roads, featuring 110 solar-powered lights, with a total value of 90 million VND.
- Two National Flag Roads along Bon Bu Prang 2 and Bon Bu Prang 2A, with flags displayed on lamp posts and along the illuminated routes, totaling 10 million VND.
- One symbolic house for a poor family in Bon Bu Prang 1A, valued at 200 million VND.
Prior to the inauguration, delegates observed a moment of silence to honor General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, and the two National Flag Roads were draped in mourning flags.
Bon Bu Prang 2 and Bon Bu Prang 2A are predominantly inhabited by ethnic minorities. Bon Bu Prang 2, in particular, is strategically important for national defense and security, situated near the Vietnam-Cambodia border. During 1976-1978, this area faced invasions by the Pol Pot rebels, who were known for their brutal tactics, including burning houses and shooting, which forced local residents to flee. In defense of national sovereignty, the soldiers at Bu Prang Border Post faced significant challenges but remained resolute, successfully repelling enemy attacks. With 95 households and 307 residents, primarily ethnic minorities, the installation of lighting along these roads supports economic development and reflects the collective effort in nation-building and safeguarding sovereignty.
University Leaders Presented Gifts to Volunteer Teams
In addition to the inauguration, the Green Summer campaign at Quang Truc Commune saw HCMUTE volunteer teams engage in weekly cleaning activities on Saturdays, hold experiential and creative classes throughout the week, and participate in the cleaning of the war hero memorial. They also held candlelight tributes and distributed 30 gifts to revolutionary contributors, policy families, and those in need, as well as 20 gifts to underprivileged children.
