HCM-UTE Mathematics Olympiad Team
The 32nd National Student Mathematics Olympiad took place from April 6 to April 11, 2026, at Quy Nhon University (Gia Lai Province). This year’s competition attracted 90 teams with more than 660 students from universities and academies nationwide, including 26 teams in Group A and 64 teams in Group B, competing in two subjects: Algebra and Calculus.
The competition was organized by the Vietnam Mathematical Society in coordination with higher education institutions, under the patronage of the Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations and the Central Committee of the Vietnam National Union of Students. It is one of the most prestigious academic competitions, bringing together outstanding students with strong mathematical abilities. Beyond being a competitive platform, the Olympiad also aims to discover and nurture mathematical talents, while creating an environment for students to develop critical thinking, enhance analytical skills, and connect within the young research community.
At this year’s competition, the HCM-UTE team had 8 participating students, including 2 students who competed in both subjects. With strong determination, a spirit of learning, and dedication, the team achieved encouraging results:
2 Second Prizes in Calculus were awarded to Duong Thien Tuan and Phan Quoc Vien;
2 Third Prizes in Algebra were awarded to Nguyen Van Thuan and Tran Dinh An.

The results of the 32nd National Student Mathematics Olympiad 2026 clearly demonstrate the university’s educational philosophy of emphasizing a strong foundation in fundamental sciences, while affirming the capability and strong passion for scientific research among the future generation of engineers at HCM-UTE.
Regarding the University’s Name Change:
On December 26, 2025, the Prime Minister issued Decision No. 2809/QĐ-TTg, officially renaming Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology and Education to Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology and Engineering (HCM-UTE), reflecting its multidisciplinary development orientation, strengths in technology and engineering, and its current stature.
Before 2007, the university was a leading institution in technical teacher education. Since 2007, in response to changes in the national academic program classification system, the university has expanded its focus on technology, engineering, and related fields. The renaming aligns with the national higher education network development plan for 2021–2030 with a vision to 2050, meeting workforce demands in the era of digital transformation, while affirming its role as a key national university in technology and engineering.
