On the morning of August 10, 2025, at the Grand Hall of Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology and Education (HCMUTE), the Class of 1990 alumni gathered for a special reunion to celebrate the 35th anniversary of their enrollment (1990–2025). This event was not only an opportunity for alumni to return to their beloved alma mater and reminisce about cherished memories, but also a chance to express deep gratitude to their former lecturers and acknowledge the contributions of alumni to the university’s growth. During the reunion, the alumni collectively contributed VND 85 million to the university’s scholarship fund, reflecting their strong connection to the school and their desire to support both current and future generations of students.



The event was honored by the presence of the university’s leadership, including Dr. Truong Thi Hien – Party Committee Secretary and Chairwoman of the University Council; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le Hieu Giang – Deputy Party Committee Secretary and Rector; and Dr. Quach Thanh Hai – Party Committee Member and Vice Rector. Also in attendance were many former lecturers who once taught the 90CKM, 90ĐKC, 90KCN, 90KĐĐ, and 90TKM classes (Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Electrical – Electronics Engineering, and Machine Design), as well as a large number of Class of 1990 alumni from all over the country.
Representing the university leadership, Dr. Truong Thi Hien expressed her joy at meeting so many Class of 1990 alumni, extended sincere gratitude to past generations of lecturers, and affirmed:
“Former lecturers of the university have laid the foundation and placed the first bricks, so that today’s young generations can continue building HCMUTE into a stronger and more developed institution.”
She also commended the alumni for their dedication and companionship, recognizing them as a valuable source of strength and contribution to the university’s progress.

In his speech, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le Hieu Giang – Deputy Party Committee Secretary, Rector of HCMUTE, and also a proud member of the Class of 1990 – shared his heartfelt emotions about returning to the warm and welcoming atmosphere of the HCMUTE family. He reflected that his years at the university provided him with invaluable knowledge, fueled his passion, and instilled a spirit of service, enabling him and many of his peers to give back to the school. He emphasized that each individual’s current achievements stand as proof of the knowledge, discipline, and generosity that HCMUTE has always nurtured.

Speaking on behalf of the former lecturers of the Class of 1990, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Thai Ba Can – Former Party Committee Secretary and Former Rector of HCMUTE – expressed his pride in witnessing the success of his former students:
“When you first entered the university, you were just young students. Now, some of you have become key leaders of the university. Seeing your success is the greatest joy and pride for us.”

Today, many Class of 1990 alumni hold important leadership and teaching positions at HCMUTE, including: Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le Hieu Giang – Rector; Dr. Quach Thanh Hai – Vice Rector; and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thanh Hai – Head of the Office of Cooperation and Training Development. Many others have become lecturers, continuing to devote their expertise and dedication to the university’s educational mission. Notably, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le Hieu Giang is the first alumnus in HCMUTE’s history to serve as its Rector. Their presence and contributions stand as clear evidence of the lasting values the university has cultivated over its 63-year history.
One of the most heartfelt moments of the reunion was the tribute to former lecturers. In a warm and emotional atmosphere, alumni presented keepsakes to their former teachers as tokens of deep gratitude. These gifts were more than just mementos – they symbolized the alumni’s profound appreciation for those who had guided, inspired, and shaped them into accomplished engineers, making meaningful contributions to society and bringing pride to HCMUTE.

In the spirit of solidarity and support for the next generation, the Class of 1990 alumni donated a total of VND 85 million to HCMUTE’s scholarship fund. This contribution not only provides financial assistance to students in need, enabling them to continue their education, but also serves as a powerful source of encouragement, inspiring the tradition of unity and compassion that defines the HCMUTE family.
