On March 8th, at the Australian National University (ANU), the Ministry of Education and Training of Vietnam, together with the Australian Ministry of Education, the Australian Embassy in Vietnam, and the Vietnamese Embassy in Australia, organized the Vietnam-Australia University Education Cooperation Forum. The aim was to enhance research collaboration between universities of the two countries, involving businesses, and to foster training partnerships between Australian and Vietnamese universities.


During the Vietnam-Australia University Education Cooperation Forum at the Kambri Cultural Center, Australian National University in Canberra, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le Hieu Giang - Acting President of Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology Education, and Prof. Sarah Todd - Vice President (Global) of Griffith University, exchanged a memorandum of understanding between the two institutions. This exchange occurred in the presence of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Kim Son, and Senator Anthony Chisholm, Assistant Minister of the Australian Ministry of Education.

The MOU between HCMUTE and Griffith University underscores academic collaboration, exchange of academic materials, and cultural interchange. Additionally, both parties commit to supporting each other in organizing seminars, conferences, and similar events.

Moreover, during the Vietnam-Australia University Education Cooperation Forum, seven other agreements were signed between universities of the two countries, prioritizing cooperation in railway construction technology, smart cities, semiconductor technology, artificial intelligence, biotechnology, and more.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh highlighted that Australian universities are among the top choices for Vietnamese students studying abroad. Many Vietnamese students who have pursued education in Australia have returned their country  and achieved great success, making significant contributions to bilateral development and collaboration. Emphasizing Vietnam's strong commitment to education, training, and human resource development, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh stated that Vietnam placed importance on attracting foreign investment in education and training, considering it a vital area of cooperation with ample potential for further development.


Australia is one of the leading providers of Government scholarships to Vietnam, offering about 70 scholarships annually for various programs under the Australia Awards Scholarship program. Australian universities attract a significant number of international students, including Vietnamese students. According to information from the Australian Embassy, approximately 32,000 Vietnamese students are currently studying in Australia, many of them are self-funded or on scholarships from universities.


On March 11th, an MOA will be signed to initiate a 2+2 program at Griffith University on the Gold Coast, Brisbane.
