On the 27th and 28th of November 2020, the 5th International Conference on Green Technology and sustainable development 2020 (GTSD 2020) was conducted online at HCMC University of Technology and Education.

GTSD 2020, the fifth in the GTSD series, is co-organized by HCMC University of Technology and Education (Vietnam), The University of Danang (Vietnam), Ho Chi Minh City Department of Science and Technology (HCMC People's Committee, Vietnam), IEEE Systems, Man and Cybernetics Society, Kun Shan University (Taiwan) and National Kaohsiung University of Science and Technology (Taiwan) National Central University (Taiwan), National Chung Hsing University (Taiwan).

The Conference attracted more than 300 full papers in 480 abstracts. In GTSD 2020, there were totally 174 selected papers which were presented in 26 separated Parallel sessions within 2 days of GTSD2020, the 27th and 28th of November 2020, with various scientific topics and distinguished chairmen professors. There were 54 papers selected for the Springer volume and 120 papers published in the IEEE volume. Such high elimination rate showed that the peer-reviewing process had been seriously conducted with the emphasis on scientific quality of the research papers.
Dr. Tran Nam Tu, the representative from Department of Science-Technology and Environment, Ministry of Education and Training, highly appreciated the scientific value of the GTSD conference series. Assoc. Prof. Dr Ngo Van Thuyen – Chairman of University Council of Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology and Education and more than 200 Chairs and authors attended the Plenary session.
Four outstanding keynote reports have been presented by Prof. Nguyen Ngoc Thanh, Wroclaw University of Science and Technology (Poland); Prof. Edward Szczerbicki, University of Newcastle (Australia); Prof. Francois Christophe, Hamk University of Applied Sciences (Finland) and Prof. Yan-Kuin Su, Director of Green Energy Technology Research Center, Kun Shan University (Taiwan).

Organizing large-scale Online International Conferences is one of the transformational steps of HCMUTE to adapt to the new normal status to ensure continuity in sharing and updating the latest research results despite the negative effects of Covid-19 pandemic. In this virtual format, the Conference is still a forum to offer domestic and foreign scientists the opportunity to share, connect and cooperate in future research while, at the same time, still ensure health safety for participants in the complicated situation of epidemic.
