On July 5, 2025, the final round of the MTA Automation Competition 2025 took place at the SMEDEC Technical Center, as part of the MTA Vietnam 2025 International Exhibition. The competition attracted teams from various universities and technical colleges in Southern Vietnam. Two student teams from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology and Education (HCMUTE), excelled in the competition and were awarded the Second and Third Prizes.

Final Round Held at MTA Vietnam 2025 International Exhibition
Organized by SMEDEC (under the Ministry of Science and Technology) in collaboration with enterprises in the mechanical engineering sector, the competition aims to promote innovation, encourage the application of artificial intelligence, and foster ESG (Environmental – Social – Governance) thinking in industrial production. This year's theme was “Applying Artificial Intelligence to Enhance Detail Inspection Efficiency in Mechanical Engineering,” focusing on integrating AI technology into inspection and manufacturing processes in the machine-building industry.
Following an online qualifying round where teams submitted video presentations of their ESG solutions, the organizing committee selected the top five teams for the final round held in person at SMEDEC. The competition included two segments: technical practice and solution presentation with defense.

HCMUTE Teams Showing Determination Before the Competition
In the technical practice round, teams were required to use 3D scanning machines, edit designs using SolidWorks, export CAM/CNC files, and apply AI-enabled cameras to detect defects in cutting tools and make predictions. The solution presentation required teams to propose an AI-integrated solution aligned with ESG principles and respond to questions from the judging panel. The competition tested interdisciplinary knowledge, precision, and teamwork.
Overcoming tough competitors, the two HCMUTE teams demonstrated outstanding expertise by winning the Second and Third Prizes. Team SPK2 (members: Duong Thanh Thang, Hoang Van Thinh, Ho Dinh Trieu, Dang Quang Vinh) secured the Second Prize. Team SPK1 (members: Le Khac Chien, Pham Thanh Hoang Phuong, Nguyen Duc Thanh, Nguyen Cong Thanh) took home the Third Prize. Under the guidance of lecturer Trần Minh Thế Uyên, both teams successfully completed all competition tasks, impressing the judges with their thorough preparation, team spirit, and professional working style.

Proud Achievement Reflects HCMUTE’s Applied Training Approach
Winning at the MTA Automation Competition 2025 is a result of the students’ dedicated study, progressive mindset, and continuous innovation. It also highlights HCMUTE’s application-oriented training approach, which emphasizes the integration of theory and practice, the development of research capabilities, and professional skills to meet real-world demands in the Industry 4.0 era.
The competition was part of the MTA Vietnam 2025 International Exhibition, the largest annual event for the mechanical engineering and manufacturing sector, held from July 2 to July 5, 2025, at the Saigon Exhibition and Convention Center (SECC). MTA Vietnam 2025 featured over 500 brands from 21 countries and territories, offering a wide range of activities including business networking, training, and technology transfer, playing a vital role in building a smart manufacturing ecosystem in Vietnam.
