On the morning of July 14, 2020, the Trade Union of Ho Chi Minh University of Technology and Education cooperated with Vietnam Education Union to organize a seminar on “Digital transformation at schools in the 4.0 era” with the participation of Schools in the Emulation Block No. 3, which is under Vietnam Education Union- the leader of the Vietnam Trade Union and the HCMC Labor Confederation, along with more than 400 lecturers and students.

Attending the Workshop was the presence of PhD. Vu Minh Duc - President of Vietnam Education Union (VEU), MA. Vu Thi Ngoc - Head of South Representative Office of Vietnam Education Union, MA. Nguyen Thi Bich Thuy - Deputy Head of Education and Training Division off HCMC Labor Confederation, representatives of trade unions in Emulation Block 03 and Trade Union of Dong Thap University, School Council, Board of Directors as well as lecturers, students in Ho Chi Minh University of Technology and Education.
Directing at the workshop, PhD. Vu Minh Duc - President of VEU expressed his pleasure to attend the workshop and highly appreciated the initiative and creativity of trade unions in Emulation Block No. 03. In the digital era, when IT affects all activities of life, the Government has made a decision to connect the digital transformation program with the goal to 2030. Vietnam ranks among the top 50 countries with e-government in the world. In this career, he stated that the vital role of universities with the responsibility to provide human resources for the digital era. Therefore, “Digital Transformation Workshop shows the acumen as well as in coherence with the change of life, demonstrating the pioneering role of education in this field” - he affirmed.

In addition, Mr. Vu Minh Duc announced 4 tasks related to the role of trade unions in the digital transformation: Changing the perception of officers, teachers, workers; overcoming the fear of difficulties and innovations; Solutions to support the team of officers, teachers and workers in applying IT in training activities, scientific research, school administration; Increasing labor productivity; How the union and the school integrate IT applications into common school activities, especially the union; Care and support for workers who do not meet the requirements of the digital transformation.

In his remark, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Do Van Dung, President of Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology and Education said that the digital transformation could be understood as applying digital technology in all activities of the school. Successful application meant successful conversion of numbers.
Mr. Dung asserted that the teachers were sometimes conservative in the digital age while students had the access to the digital technology very early. He also shared about the policy of “Stick and carrot” to encourage and gradually force the application of digital teaching in teaching and learning programs.
With 15 essays delivered, the Workshop provided a lot of good models and solutions from educational institutions, which brought new perspectives for digital transformation in education. In particular, 7 selected papers presented at the Workshop created an exciting atmosphere for discussion, sharing and learning opportunities for institutions, participating units.
Sharing his experiences in performing Digital Teaching in Professional Education, PhD. Nguyen Tien Dung - Faculty of Mechanical and Mechanic Engineering of Ho Chi Minh University of Technology and Education brought many problems that he had directly encountered and overcome, tools to support online lectures more easily (video and image editing, etc.), the basic concepts or basic mistakes to avoid. The presentation was practical and useful for teachers who were new to digital teaching.

With the discussion of an online training model to improve the quality of training at the unit, Ms. Kieu Phuong Thuy from Hanoi National University of Education introduced a tool called Nearpot along with the Fitel system to show statistics on the results of the sessions, which were very efficient. Besides using the support tools, she also introduced the processes and how to manage interactions with these tools. The implementation phase of the model was practical and easy to understand.

The paper raised the most questions was the discussion on Digital Learning Experience at UTEx (the online training system of University of Technology and Education of Ho Chi Minh City). It was a relatively new model and pioneering in the system of public university in online higher education. MA. Nguyen Minh Triet presented and answered the questions in a very convincing manner.

Digital Transformation Workshop in Schools in the 4.0 era ended with many new directions for educational institutions. It created opportunities for exchanging and sharing good models and effective solutions in digital transformation among schools. Some of these solutions were suitable for the units; for students in the construction industry of Ho Chi Minh University of Technology and Education in particular and students studying this field in other Universities in the region in general. They had the opportunity to exchange, apply theoretical knowledge in real life; thereby, students can show their abilities, “good knowledge, strong skills”, to meet the needs of employers.
