On the morning of 15 July 2026, a delegation from Yeungnam University (Korea) visited and held a working session with HCMC University of Technology and Engineering(HCM-UTE, formerly Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology and Education). The meeting aimed to discuss directions for international cooperation, expand opportunities for joint training programs, and strengthen connections between the two universities in the context of higher education internationalization.
Attending the meeting on behalf of HCM-UTE were Assoc. Prof. Chau Dinh Thanh, Vice President; Assoc. Prof. Truong Nguyen Luan Vu, Dean of Faculty of Mechanical Engineering; Assoc. Prof. Do Thanh Trung, Director of Office of Testing and Quality Assurance; Mr. Pham Bach Duong, Director of Office of International Affairs; and Dr. Nguyen Van Trang, Vice Dean of Faculty of Energy Engineering and Transport. Representing Yeungnam University were Mrs. Lee Chun Young, Vice-President for International Affairs, and Mr. Kwon Osang, Manager, International Student Admissions Team.

In his welcome remarks, Assoc. Prof. Chau Dinh Thanh, Vice President of HCM-UTE, shared that he had the opportunity to visit Yeungnam University in September 2025 and was deeply impressed by the university’s modern facilities, dynamic learning environment, and high-quality education. Based on this experience, HCM-UTE hopes to promote international cooperation programs with Yeungnam University, thereby creating more opportunities for learning and development for students of both institutions.

Representing Yeungnam University, Mrs. Lee Chun Young, Vice-President for International Affairs, expressed her desire to expand cooperation with HCM-UTE in various fields of education and academic exchange. She also introduced the long-standing development of Yeungnam University, which was established in 1947 and is one of the prestigious universities in Korea. In particular, the university places great emphasis on supporting international students through comprehensive policies on academics, student life, and career orientation.

One of the highlights shared by Yeungnam University was its special attention to international students. In addition to creating a modern and friendly learning environment, Yeungnam University is also one of the pioneering universities in Korea to establish an Employment and Settlement Transition Support Center dedicated to international students. The center accompanies students from their study period until after graduation through career counseling, business networking, job search support, and long-term development orientation in Korea, helping students quickly integrate and build their careers in an international environment.
During the meeting, the two sides discussed many potential areas of cooperation in the coming time, particularly international joint training programs following the 2+2, 3+1, and 2+2+1 models. Among these, the 2+2 dual-degree model was considered one of the most promising directions for cooperation, allowing students to study for two years at HCM-UTE and two years at Yeungnam University in the fields of Information Technology and Semiconductor Technology. The two universities also agreed to continue coordinating curriculum benchmarking, credit recognition, and developing solutions for completing courses that cannot yet be fully matched according to the regulations of each institution.
In addition, English-taught programs, student exchange programs, and Korean language courses for HCM-UTE students were discussed as practical solutions to improve foreign language proficiency, enhance international experience, and help students quickly adapt to the global learning environment.
Yeungnam University possesses outstanding strengths in education and research, especially in the field of Information Technology, one of its key disciplines, with a modern laboratory system, research activities closely linked to industry, and a strong orientation toward the development of advanced technologies. This is considered an important foundation for the two universities to promote cooperation in education, scientific research, and academic exchange in the field of Information Technology.
Furthermore, with their shared orientation as applied technical universities, HCM-UTE and Yeungnam University both have many disciplines with similar strengths. The two sides discussed the possibility of expanding cooperation in engineering fields through student and faculty exchange programs, joint research, co-development of training programs, and the implementation of international cooperative projects, thereby contributing to the training of high-quality technical human resources to meet the needs of businesses in the digital transformation era.
The two universities also shared experiences in the internationalization of education, attracting international students, and developing training programs that meet global workforce demands. The discussions demonstrated many similarities in the development orientations of the two institutions, creating a favorable foundation for implementing specific cooperative activities in the future.

The working session opened up many practical prospects for cooperation between HCMC University of Technology and Engineering and Yeungnam University. In the coming time, the two universities expect to effectively leverage their respective strengths to implement cooperative programs in education, scientific research, academic exchange, and high-quality human resource development, thereby contributing to the internationalization of higher education and strengthening educational cooperation between Vietnam and Korea.
