The program marked a new milestone in the cooperation between the two institutions, while providing a foundation for both sides to exchange experience in facility management and utilization and to improve the quality of services and amenities for students and the wider community. In particular, continued cooperation between HCM-UTE and the Center is of practical significance to HCM-UTE students residing at the VNU-HCM Dormitory, contributing to the maintenance and improvement of accommodation, living conditions, and amenities for student life.

Attending the signing ceremony, HCM-UTE was represented by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le Hieu Giang, President of the University, and Dr. Quach Thanh Hai, Vice President of the University. The VNU-HCM Dormitory and Urban Area Management Center was represented by Mr. Tang Huu Thuy, M.A., Director of the Center, and Dr. Tran Viet Thang, Deputy Director of the Center. The event was also attended by leaders of relevant professional units from both institutions.

Speaking at the ceremony, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le Hieu Giang, President of HCM-UTE, expressed his appreciation for the close cooperative relationship between the University and the Center over the years, particularly the Center's continued companionship and support in providing accommodation for HCM-UTE students. This is a highly practical area of cooperation for students, especially those studying and living away from home.

Building on the established relationship, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le Hieu Giang expressed his expectation that, through this agreement, the two sides would continue to strengthen and expand their cooperation, enhance communication and experience sharing, and jointly seek more appropriate and effective solutions to support students in their studies, daily activities, and overall well-being. This will provide HCM-UTE students residing at the VNU-HCM Dormitory with increasingly favorable living conditions, a better living environment, and improved access to essential amenities.

Continuing the program, Mr. Tang Huu Thuy, M.A., Director of the VNU-HCM Dormitory and Urban Area Management Center, highly appreciated HCM-UTE's steady development of its facilities as well as its effective organization and utilization of campus spaces. He noted that the University's practical experience provides valuable references for the Center to study and apply in the investment, organization, and utilization of facilities, thereby gradually improving the quality of services supporting the material and spiritual well-being of students residing at the VNU-HCM Dormitory.

Mr. Tang Huu Thuy also affirmed that the Center would continue to work closely with HCM-UTE, accompanying and supporting each other in the coming period. The cooperation between the two sides aims not only to improve the efficiency of facility management and utilization but also to contribute to developing an increasingly modern and integrated residential environment that better meets students' needs for studying, daily activities, and overall well-being.

As part of the working session, representatives of the VNU-HCM Dormitory and Urban Area Management Center discussed and explored space leasing and utilization models that have been effectively implemented at HCM-UTE. Notable examples, including Last Minute, GS25, and Highlands Coffee, were introduced as practical models for making effective use of campus spaces while diversifying services and amenities for students.

These practical experiences will provide a basis for the Center to study, evaluate, and select models appropriate to the actual conditions of the VNU-HCM Dormitory. This will contribute to gradually diversifying services and amenities, improving service quality, and better meeting the needs of resident students—including HCM-UTE students—as well as the surrounding community.

The signing of the MOU contributes to strengthening coordination between HCM-UTE and the VNU-HCM Dormitory and Urban Area Management Center in supporting HCM-UTE students residing at the VNU-HCM Dormitory, with the goal of providing them with more convenient living conditions and better access to services and amenities. In addition, the exchange of experience in facility management, leasing, and space utilization provides both institutions with opportunities to learn from practical models, contributing to more effective facility utilization and improved service quality in the future.

Regarding the University's Name Change

On December 26, 2025, the Prime Minister issued Decision No. 2809/QĐ-TTg, officially changing the name of Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology and Education to Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology and Engineering (HCM-UTE). The new name reflects the University's multidisciplinary development orientation, strengths in technology and engineering, and its current scale and role.

Prior to 2007, the University was a leading institution in technical teacher education. From 2007 onward, in response to changes in the national system of academic disciplines and training codes, the University accelerated the development of technology and engineering programs and related fields. The name change is aligned with the Master Plan for the Higher Education Institution Network for the 2021–2030 Period, with a Vision to 2050, meeting the demand for high-quality human resources in the era of digital transformation while reaffirming the University's role as a key national institution in technology and engineering.
