The first online education system in Vietnam was recently established at HCMUTE after a period of piloting and preparation, with its opening ceremony solemnly organized at the Grand Hall on 22 April 2019.

UTEx, as it is named, means the Extra, Extreme and Extraordinary (the x part) Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology and Education (the UTE part), according to Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ngo Anh Tuan, President of the e-school.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Do Van Dung, President of HCMUTE, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ngo Anh Tuan, President of UTEx, join the pressing of the UTEx Opening button.

UTEx is an overall combination of the green education ecosystem (environment, architecture and culture - people) and the open education ecosystem with a streamlined management model based on online technology
platforms.

It can be regarded as pioneering in the renovation of higher education in the era of 4.0 industry nationwide.

Like any other normal university, UTEx belongs to Vietnam public education system.

At the opening ceremony, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Do Van Dung emphasized that it was HCMUTE students and lecturers who benefited directly from UTEx.

“It creates connections to the e-university’s ecosystem, including businesses, provinces, high schools, and international schools, serving those who need to study through an online environment.”

“Parents can also monitor their children’s learning activities,” he added.

According to Dr. Tuan, UTEx will provide an optimal and cost-effective solution to education, making the most use of the university existing resources.

It inherits and takes advantage of the current widely-used second generation eLearning systems (Moodle, Blackboard, Open Edx, Emodo, etc.) in Vietnam, and at the same time develops and shifts itself to eLearning 4.0.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ngo Anh Tuan introduces UTEx at the opening ceremony.

Combining the university’s educational philosophy of humanity – innovation - integration into modern teaching technologies, UTEx can make a difference.

Its teaching and learning activities are designed to meet new trends in education, which is developing the education ecosystem, open educational resources, and smart connection education (universities, enterprises and community).

Apart from inheriting and making full advantage of 4.0 technologies like A.I., Big Data, AR/VR,  3D, etc., UTEx also applies and develops connection class models (eClass) on multi-platform websites, etc.

Via UTEx, students’ personal learning environment is optimized and their progress will be evaluated through a good variety of assessment instruments such as rubrics or multiple choice questions, and different assessment methods like evaluation by the community, teachers/experts, and peers, or personal activity analysis.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ngo Anh Tuan receives the appointment decision of UTEx President.

An estimate of VND 160 billion will be invested in the e-university, which is projected to come into full operation in September 2020.

UTEx is expected to increase the efficiency and quality of education at HCMUTE in order to catch up with the 21st century education trends, creating a network of domestic and international education connections

The future HCMUTE 4.0 education ecosystem is also hoped to step by step implement effectively the mass open online courses (MOOCs) with diversification, promoting the value and prestige of the university worldwide.
