To strengthen cooperation in training and scientific research, Korea University (South Korea) paid an official visit to Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology and Education (HCMUTE) on the afternoon of November 24, 2025. This visit marks an important step toward deepening collaboration between two leading universities of South Korea and Vietnam in the context of accelerating internationalization in higher education.

 

In October 2025, HCMUTE and Korea University formally signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), laying the foundation for comprehensive collaboration in education, research, and academic exchange. The working session thus served as an essential follow-up, allowing both sides to further clarify cooperation priorities, discuss implementation plans, and accelerate the roadmap for upcoming joint initiatives.

 

Representing HCMUTE were: Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le Hieu Giang – President; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Chau Dinh Thanh – Vice President; MSc. Nguyen Thoi – Deputy Director of Office of International Affairs ; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Truong Nguyen Luan Vu – Dean of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Truong Dinh Nhon – Dean of the Faculty of International Education; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le Chi Kien – Vice Dean of the Faculty of Electrical and Electronics Engineering; and Dr. Willibeth C. Candol – International Consultant.

 

The Korea University delegation included Prof. Dong-One KIM President, Prof. Sang Kee SONG Vice President for International Affairs, Prof. Jae Uk CHUN Vice President for External Affairs and Mr. Seungwoo HAM Manager of the External Affairs Team.

During the meeting, HCMUTE President Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le Hieu Giang emphasized:

“HCMUTE places great importance on expanding international cooperation to enhance training quality, research capacity, and global integration. Today’s visit by Korea University offers a valuable opportunity for both institutions to deepen discussions on strategic collaboration, particularly in engineering, technology, and high-quality human resource development.”

President of Korea University, Prof. Dong-One Kim, affirmed that Vietnam has long been one of South Korea’s most important strategic partners in Asia. He shared:

 

“Korea University has continuously strengthened its partnerships with Vietnamese institutions. We recognize Vietnam’s rapid development, young talented workforce, and strong potential in engineering, technology, innovation, and digital transformation. We look forward to expanding our academic cooperation, joint research, and cultural exchange activities with Vietnamese partners.”

At the session, the two universities discussed a range of promising cooperation directions, including:
joint research projects,
student and faculty exchange programs,
co-hosting international scientific conferences,
developing joint training programs in key engineering fields,
and organizing short-term courses and cultural–academic exchange activities.

 

Both sides expressed strong commitment to these initiatives and agreed to develop detailed implementation plans in the near future.

 

HCMUTE also shared its interest in receiving further technical collaboration from Korea University in strategic areas such as renewable energy, hydrogen energy, and clean energy solutions. With Korea University's leading research capabilities, HCMUTE hopes to invite professors and experts for short-term teaching, specialized training, and joint strategic research projects. Such cooperation is expected to contribute significantly to Vietnam’s energy transition while enhancing the research capacity of HCMUTE’s faculty and students.

 

The meeting marked the beginning of a new chapter in the partnership between HCMUTE and Korea University, opening up meaningful opportunities for both staff and students and contributing to the advancement of higher education collaboration between Vietnam and South Korea.
