On the afternoon of September 9, 2026, at the Grand Hall in Block A, the Faculty of Electrical and Electronics Engineering of Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology and Engineering (HCM-UTE, formerly Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology and Education), in cooperation with Astera Labs Co., Ltd., held the seminar “Astera Labs Integrated Circuit Technology” and presented the Dr. Michael Q. Le Scholarship to outstanding students of the Faculty. The program gave students access to specialized knowledge, emerging technology trends and the practical requirements of industry in the integrated circuit and semiconductor field.

Attending the program, HCM-UTE was represented by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le My Ha, Dean of the Faculty of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, together with lecturers and a large number of the Faculty's students. Astera Labs Co., Ltd. was represented by Dr. Michael Le, Vice President; Dr. Karim Abdelhalim, Associate Vice President; and the company's technical managers and team leaders.

 

As semiconductor technology and artificial intelligence exert a growing impact on many sectors of the economy, demand continues to rise for human resources with a solid professional foundation and the ability to adapt to real technology environments. At the seminar, Dr. Michael Le presented an overview of the development of artificial intelligence and introduced the integrated circuit technology trends currently of interest at Astera Labs.

Continuing the program, Dr. Karim Abdelhalim shared in-depth knowledge of analog design. Through his presentation, students learned about the fundamental principles, the role and the professional requirements for analog design engineers in a real working environment.

Representatives of the Astera Labs technical management team then introduced key stages in the integrated circuit development process, including the analog layout flow, the digital RTL design flow, and the design verification flow. These topics helped students connect what they learn in class with engineering processes in industry, and gave them a clearer view of the job positions available in integrated circuit design.

As part of the program, Dr. Michael Q. Le presented 10 Dr. Michael Q. Le Scholarships worth VND 20 million each, for a total of VND 200 million, to outstanding students of the Faculty of Electrical and Electronics Engineering. The scholarships are a practical recognition and encouragement of students' efforts in study, research and personal development, and reflect the company's interest in accompanying HCM-UTE in training and developing high-quality engineering human resources.

With a training orientation closely linked to practice, HCM-UTE focuses on equipping learners with a foundation of engineering knowledge, practical and research capability, and the ability to adapt to technological development. The seminar “Astera Labs Integrated Circuit Technology” and the presentation of the Dr. Michael Q. Le Scholarship not only brought students practical knowledge and useful career orientation but also strengthened the connection between the Faculty of Electrical and Electronics Engineering and industry, thereby supporting the improvement of training quality, research and human resource development in the integrated circuit and semiconductor field at HCM-UTE.

 

About the University's Name Change:

On December 26, 2025, the Prime Minister of Vietnam issued Decision No. 2809/QĐ-TTg, officially renaming Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology and Education to Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology and Engineering (HCM-UTE). The new name reflects the University's multidisciplinary development strategy, its strengths in technology and engineering, and its current institutional stature.

Before 2007, the University was Vietnam's leading institution for technical teacher education. Following changes to the national higher education program classification system in 2007, the University expanded its focus to technology, engineering, and related disciplines. The name change aligns with Vietnam's Higher Education Network Development Plan for 2021-2030 with a vision toward 2050, addresses the demand for high-quality human resources in the digital transformation era, and reaffirms HCM-UTE's role as a national key university in technology and engineering.
