From August 17 to 21, 2026, more than 8,000 first-year students of the 2026 intake at Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology and Engineering (HCM-UTE, formerly Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology and Education) took part in the University's Orientation Week. The program introduces new students to academic life, training requirements and student services at HCM-UTE, and equips them with the knowledge and skills they will need throughout their university studies.

In their first days at HCM-UTE, students received an overview of the University, its learning environment and the practical information they will need throughout their studies.

Representatives of the Office of Student Affairs presented the regulations governing student life, scholarship policies, community service and student conduct assessment, support policies for students, and the procedure for requesting student status certificates. The session gave new students a clear picture of their rights, their responsibilities and the rules they must follow at HCM-UTE.

The Office of Academic Affairs then briefed students on academic regulations, assessment methods, graduation requirements and the foreign language exit standard. Students were also shown how to use the academic portal (https://online.hcmute.edu.vn/) to register for courses and check their timetables, so that they can plan their studies from the very first semester.

Another practical part of the program was a session on school psychology, integration skills and effective learning methods at university. Drawing on a psychologist's perspective, students learned what changes when moving from secondary school to university, and how to adapt to the new environment, manage their time and take charge of their own learning.

The University's Youth Union and Student Association also introduced new students to both organizations and to the clubs, teams and student activities open to them. New students can choose the activities that match their interests and goals, broaden their networks, develop new skills and gain memorable experiences during their years at the University.

As part of Orientation Week, students joined an online session on the University's Facebook page from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on August 21, 2026. It covered tuition, scholarships and financial support; the library and digital learning resources; industry connections, skills and employment; student support services; healthcare and health insurance; and dormitory accommodation.

Orientation continues beyond this week. New students will attend a welcome meeting with the leaders of their faculties and institutes and take part in the “Green – Clean – Beautiful” Week from August 22 to October 4, 2026, on a schedule set by each faculty and institute. Online citizenship education classes will run from September 15 to October 15, 2026. The Freshman Welcome Gala is scheduled for October 4, 2026, opening a new chapter for the 2026 intake at HCM-UTE.

From these first sessions to their studies, training, student activities and community engagement, the 2026 intake is settling into university life and building a foundation for the years ahead. HCM-UTE wishes its new students confidence, initiative and a memorable journey.

About the University's Name Change

On December 26, 2025, the Prime Minister of Vietnam issued Decision No. 2809/QĐ-TTg, officially renaming Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology and Education to Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology and Engineering (HCM-UTE). The new name reflects the university's multidisciplinary development strategy, its strengths in technology and engineering, and its current institutional stature.

Before 2007, the university was Vietnam's leading institution for technical teacher education. Following changes to the national higher education program classification system in 2007, the university expanded its focus to technology, engineering, and related disciplines. The name change aligns with Vietnam's Higher Education Network Development Plan for 2021–2030 with a vision toward 2050, addresses the demand for high-quality human resources in the digital transformation era, and reaffirms HCM-UTE's role as a national key university in technology and engineering.
