Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology and Education celebrated the 55th anniversary (October 5th, 1962 – October 5th, 2017) and received the Certificate of Merit from the Minister of Education and Training in the morning of October 5th, 2017.
On this special occasion, HCMUTE was honored to welcome Prof. Dr. Bui Van Ga - Vice Minister of Education and Training, Mr. Ha Huu Phuc - Director, Representative Office of the Ministry in Ho Chi Minh City, Mr. Truong Anh Dung, Deputy Director General of Education and Training, Mr. Vu Minh Duc, President of Vietnam Education Trade Union, Mrs. Nguyen Thi Thu, Vice Chairman of People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City, Mr. Thomas Kruse, Principal of University of Emindinghen. Many distinguished guests were leaders of People’s Committee of Ho Chi Minh City, Phu Yen province, Dong Thap province, Tien Giang province, etc.
The ceremony was also honored to welcome representatives of University of Agriculture and Forestry, Vietnamese – German University, Dong Thap University, Vinh Long Technical Education College, Nguyen Tat Thanh University, Can Tho University, University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City, University of Law, University of Architecture, Ho Chi Minh City University of Transport, University of People's Security, to name just a few; representatives of high schools, enterprises, former leaders and lecturers, and alumni of the university through generations
On the side of the university, Dr. Ngo Van Thuyen - Chairman of the University Council, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Do Van Dung - Secretary of the Party Committee, President of HCMUTE, Assoc. Prof. Le Hieu Giang – Vice-President, Ms. Truong Thi Hien – Vice-President together with lecturers and more than 500 students representing more than 24000 students were warmly welcomed.
Speaking at the Opening Ceremony, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Do Van Dung - Secretary of the Party Committee, President, joyfully reviewed the history of the university: "Over 55 years of formation and development, we should always keep in mind the sacrifices, hardships that previous generations have devoted. We also always acknowledge the leadership of the university through the ages, the generations of cadres, civil servants and alumni, have made great contributions since the very first foundation, which has enlightened the pedagogy of the country. Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology and Education was formed on the basis of the College of Technical Education - founded on October 5th, 1962. On September 21st, 1972, the school was renamed as Nguyen Truong To Center for Technical Education in Thu Duc and was upgraded to Thu Duc College of Education in 1974. On October 27th, 1976, the Prime Minister has signed the decision to establish Thu Duc University of Technical Education on the basis of the Thu Duc University of Education. In 1984, Thu Duc Industrial Vocational School amalgamated with Thu Duc University of Technical Education and changed its name to Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology and Education. In 1991, Technical Teacher Training School No. 5 amalgamated with Thu Duc University of Technical Education". He stated:" When it comes to Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology and Education, today, it is undeniable to say that most of the graduates from this university have theoretical basis, good skills, outstanding soft skills, industrialism inherited from the German tradition and followed by American pragmatism and creativity".
In the school year 2016 - 2017, the university continues to take the lead in the application of information technology with the theme of "Application of Information Technology and Internet of Things to build schools into intelligent university". The theme for the academic year 2017 - 2018 is "Innovating the model of university governance through autonomy and creativity". Towards 2020 goals, the university and all of its programs will be evaluated according to AUN - QA standards. In addition to its strong transformation, the school has always showed its deep interest to students through practical policies and activities. With the philosophy of education: innovation, integration, Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology and Education is ready for rapid changes in technology including education technology by The Fourth Industrial Revolution.
Speaking at the ceremony, Prof. Dr. Bui Van Ga - Deputy Minister of Education and Training sent congratulations to the Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology and Education for 55 years of formation and development. He emphasized that the university has been the leading one in the system of technical universities all over the country. Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology and Education has provided thousands of technicians, engineers and lecturers for the country's development, which places the university on the top of the higher education system of our country and the world. Also, the high rate of graduated students, scientific research achievements, technological innovations, close links with enterprises and international cooperation have been documented. As being one of the leading universities in university autonomy, HCMUTE should boldly rearrange faculties and departments, redesign the curriculum based on the experience of renovating university programs, building the output standards in line with the national framework for highly competitive graduates in the integration period so that they are worthy of being the center for scientific and technical training of the region in the South of Vietnam as well as the whole country.
At the ceremony, the university was honored to receive the Certificate of Merit from the Minister of Education and Training together with 4 collectives and 8 individuals with excellent achievements in the process of building and developing the university in the period 1962-2017. Also in the ceremony, the university was pleased to receive the Certificate of Merit from the Executive Committee of Vietnam Education Trade Union for 2 collectives and 2 individuals from the trade union who have made excellent achievements in the emulation movement "Research Department learn and transfer technology ", Certificate of Merit and Traditional Flag of People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City for a collective and 14 individuals, Badge of Ho Chi Minh City for two individuals.
On this occasion, the university awarded the honorary doctorate to Mr. Thomas Kruse from Federal Republic, Germany and Mr. Jeffrey Scott Goss, USA, and the Award of Excellence for outstanding individuals in teaching and scientific research, honoring 10 businesses with extensive cooperation with the university, honoring 55 outstanding staff members and two excellent individuals who have enormously contributed for the development of the university over the past 55 years.
