On February 28th, 2017, Scholarship Award and Research Support Ceremony sponsored by Heineken Vietnam Brewery Limited Company (HVB) was held at the HCMUTE Meeting Hall.
The ceremony was part of Heineken’s Young Talent Support program series “Toward Water Security”. With a total budget of 7.7 billion VND the program aims to develop young environmental scientists whose dream and desire are to contribute to the long-term research, water management and conservation in Vietnam. HCMUTE was honored to be one of the two places holding this practical scholarship award ceremony.
The ceremony was held with the presence of many distinguished lecturers, representatives of the sponsor, students, and young scientists. HCMUTE had Mr. Le Hieu Giang, the university’s Deputy President, Ms. Vo Thi Nga, The Dean of the Faculty of Chemical and Food Technology, Mr. Tran Ke Thuan, Deputy Head of the Office of Enterprises Relations. The University of Natural Resources and Environment had Ms. Bui Thi Ha, the representative of the Faculty of Environment, Mr. Truong Cong Truong, the representative of the Student Assistance Center, Ms. Truong Thi Cam Trang, Deputy Head of the Environmental Technology Department, the Faculty of Environment, University of Science. In addition, representatives of the major sponsor had Mr. Le Quy Don, Senior HR Manager, Ms. Le Thi Ngoc My, Director of Sustainable Development Department, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Dat, Head of the Public Relation Department
Opening the ceremony, Mr. Le Quy Don spoke about the benefits, the goals and the responsibility of the program as well as the company’s commitment to water in particular and the environment in general. Also, he congratulated the students on being awarded the scholarship this year. “Fresh water is such a limited resource,” he affirmed, and the fact that the program has been held five times indicates the significant goals and roles of the program.

On behalf of the university’s representatives, Mr. Le Hieu Giang expressed his pleasure and appreciation of the bilateral cooperation and thanked the sponsor for assisting the University in providing over 1000 students with vehicles to visit factories, recruitment of graduates, and support for students’ scientific research.

Moreover, Young Talent Support program “Toward water security” has received plenty of attention and participation of students and young scientists all over the country this year. Eighteen subjects was applied to the organization committee. After auditions and presentations, the board of the sponsor selected four most excellent subjects for the scholarship award. Among those, Le Thanh An – a senior student majoring in Environmental Technology at HCMUTE, whose topic was “Developing household water treatment equipment by using photo-catalytic materials combined with sunlight” was honored to be one of the four selected awardees.
4 students were awarded scholarship certificates.
14 freshmen measuring up to the scholarship requirement and 41 students attempting to maintain their excellent results despite having been awarded scholarship since 2013 was chronologically praised in the ceremony.

It is expected to have more similar beneficial scholarships for motivating students and young scientists to make every effort to study, assisting them in following their passion, and gradually making their dreams come true.
