On the morning of September 22, 2026, at Meeting Room 2 of Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology and Engineering (HCM-UTE, formerly Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology and Education), the University Trade Union, in coordination with the University Youth Union, held the program “Legal Awareness and Counseling for Students.”
The program “Legal Awareness and Counseling for Students”
The program is intended for final-year students who are preparing to graduate and enter the job market. Alongside the search for suitable employment, students need to understand the basic legal provisions in order to recognize their rights and responsibilities and to be prepared for situations that may arise at work.
At the program, Pham Ngoc Lan, M.A., a lecturer of the Center for Counseling and Support for Workers under the Ho Chi Minh City Federation of Labor, shared with final-year students key knowledge of labor law as it relates to the search for employment and to participation in labor relations. The presentation covered how to establish one’s status as an employee; the points to note when looking for work and signing a labor contract; regulations on wages, labor discipline and the termination of labor contracts; the role of the trade union and of organizations representing employees; and a number of common legal risks.

In addition to the presentation, students put questions directly to the speaker and discussed the legal situations of most concern to them. The discussion helped clarify their questions and showed them appropriate ways to handle problems in practice, so that they can be better prepared as they enter the job market and can protect their lawful rights and interests.

The program contributes to strengthening legal dissemination and education for HCM-UTE students. Through this activity, the University aims to equip final-year students with the understanding they need alongside their professional knowledge, helping them exercise the rights and obligations of an employee correctly as they begin their careers.

About the University’s Name Change:
On December 26, 2025, the Prime Minister of Vietnam issued Decision No. 2809/QĐ-TTg, officially renaming Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology and Education to Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology and Engineering (HCM-UTE). The new name reflects the University’s multidisciplinary development strategy, its strengths in technology and engineering, and its current institutional stature.
Before 2007, the University was Vietnam’s leading institution for technical teacher education. Following changes to the national higher education program classification system in 2007, the University expanded its focus to technology, engineering, and related disciplines. The name change aligns with Vietnam’s Higher Education Network Development Plan for 2021-2030 with a vision toward 2050, addresses the demand for high-quality human resources in the digital transformation era, and reaffirms HCM-UTE’s role as a national key university in technology and engineering.
