On August 4th, 2023, at the conference "Training and Development of Agricultural Human Resources and Rural Development in the Southern Region to Support Sustainable Agriculture and Rural Development," Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) Le Minh Hoan stated that agriculture is a national advantage. However, the shortage of labor has caused imbalance, resulting in damages to many of Vietnam's advantages.
The labor shortage leads to insufficient care for crops during crucial stages, resulting in harvest yields falling short of expectations. Currently, in the market, to substitute for manual labor in pesticide spraying and fertilizing crops, there are various models of drones such as DJI Agras T40, EFT Z50... However, these drones entail high investment costs, averaging over 350 million Vietnamese Dong, and maintenance also comes at a high cost.
After thorough market demand research and development assessment in the Mekong Delta and Central regions, to partially alleviate the labor shortage, Dr. Dang Xuan Ba, lecturer in the Department of Automatic Control, Faculty of Electrical - Electronics, Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology, along with over 20 colleagues including students and young engineers, have researched and developed unmanned aerial vehicles (drones) to assist in the cultivation of crops over large areas.
The drones developed by Dr. Dang Xuan Ba's team have a localization rate of 40%. The frame of the drone is designed and manufactured domestically, while components such as engines, propellers, batteries... are imported from reputable drone and flycam units like HobbyWing, MaxAmps...
The four engines used in the drone are X11 models from HobbyWing, a company specializing in electronic devices for RC racing and brushless motors. These engines are more modern than commercial drone versions with similar functions in the Asian region. The use of these four engines enables the drone to take off with a payload carrying up to 60 liters of solution, reach an altitude of up to 50 meters, and achieve speeds of up to 70 km/h.
