With the aim of promoting international cooperation in education and research in high-tech fields, particularly semiconductor technology, artificial intelligence (AI), and renewable energy, on the afternoon of March 9, 2026, a delegation representing 25 universities and educational organizations from Taiwan visited and held a working session at Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology and Engineering (HCM-UTE), formerly known as Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology and Education.

The visit served as an important opportunity for both sides to strengthen academic connections, exchange information on international training programs, and discuss potential directions for cooperation in science and technology, high-quality human resource development, and applied research in the context of digital transformation and global educational integration.

Attending the meeting on behalf of HCM-UTE were Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le Hieu Giang – President of the University – along with representatives from various faculties and departments, including the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Faculty of Energy Engineering and Transport, Faculty of Civil Engineering, Faculty of Information Technology, Faculty of Economics, Faculty of Chemical and Food Technology, Faculty of Applied Sciences, Faculty of Advanced Education, the Office of International Affairs, the Office of Science and Technology, and the Office of Testing and Quality Assurance. The meeting was also attended by several lecturers who previously studied in Taiwan.

The Taiwanese delegation included representatives from 25 prestigious universities and educational organizations: Asia University, China Medical University, Fo Guang University, Fu Jen Catholic University, Kaohsiung Medical University, National Cheng Kung University, National Chi Nan University, National Chiayi University, National Chung-Hsing University, National Dong Hwa University, National Formosa University, National Ilan University, National Kaohsiung University of Science and Technology, National Pingtung University of Science and Technology, National Sun Yat-sen University, National Taichung University of Education, National Taipei University, National Taipei University of Technology, National Taiwan University of Science and Technology, National Yunlin University of Science and Technology, Taipei Medical University, Tunghai University, Tzu Chi University, University Entrance Committee for Overseas Compatriot Students, and University of Taipei.

At the meeting, Prof. Wei-Chih Lin – Education Counselor of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Ho Chi Minh City – shared that this visit provides an important opportunity to strengthen connections between Taiwanese universities and higher education institutions in Vietnam. He emphasized that HCM-UTE is a promising partner in engineering and technology. He also noted that the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office will continue to serve as a bridge to promote academic cooperation, support student exchange programs, scholarships, and joint research initiatives, thereby contributing to the development of high-quality human resources in key technological fields such as semiconductors, artificial intelligence, and green technology.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le Hieu Giang, President of HCM-UTE, stated that strengthening cooperation with Taiwanese universities will open up more opportunities for HCM-UTE students and faculty members to access advanced learning and research environments, while also enhancing the university’s training and research capacity in cutting-edge technological fields.

Over the years, cooperation with Taiwanese universities has brought many practical results in developing the university’s faculty. To date, 35 PhD holders and many master’s degree graduates of HCM-UTE have completed their studies at universities in Taiwan in fields such as engineering and economics. These lecturers now play important roles in teaching, research, and academic development at the university.

In addition, Taiwanese universities have also created important opportunities for HCM-UTE students to pursue postgraduate education. Many graduates have continued their master’s and doctoral studies at Taiwanese universities, becoming highly qualified human resources contributing to teaching, research, and the socio-economic development of Vietnam.

As Vietnam is accelerating its strategy to develop the semiconductor industry, strengthening connections with Taiwan’s university system-one of the world’s leading semiconductor technology hubs has become particularly meaningful. Taiwan plays a vital role in the global semiconductor supply chain, with a strong ecosystem of semiconductor research, education, and manufacturing.

Many universities in the visiting delegation have strong expertise in fields such as electrical and electronic engineering, materials science, microchip technology, automation, and information technology. This provides a favorable foundation for HCM-UTE to expand cooperation in education and research for developing high-quality human resources for the semiconductor industry-an area currently prioritized for development in Vietnam.

Strengthening connections with academic partners from Taiwan will not only enable HCM-UTE to access advanced training and research programs but also create opportunities for students and faculty to participate in internships and research at modern laboratories, thereby enhancing scientific and technological capacity and keeping pace with the development of the knowledge-based economy.
