On July 25-26, 2024, the 7th International Conference on Green Technology and Sustainable Development (GTSD 2024) took place at Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology and Education (HCMUTE). The conference was hosted by HCMUTE in collaboration with the Rajamangala University of Technology Lanna (Thailand), Vietnam National University of Forestry (Vietnam), and National Penghu University of Science and Technology (Taiwan).
The conference was divided into 31 sessions covering topics such as renewable energy, artificial intelligence, electrical engineering, new advanced materials, green solutions, circular economy, and more. Since 2022, the conference has been held in a hybrid format after being conducted entirely online in 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic. This format allows for remote participation while maintaining direct interaction between speakers and on-site attendees, thereby expanding its reach and flexibility for those unable to attend in person, and enhancing the conference's effectiveness and success.
Representatives from HCMUTE and the organizing committee included Dr. Truong Thi Hien, Party Secretary and Chairwoman of the University Council; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le Hieu Giang, Acting President; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hoang An Quoc, Head of the Science and Technology Office; along with other esteemed faculty members. Domestic guests included Dr. Tran Nam Tu, Deputy Director of the Department of Science, Technology and Environment (Ministry of Education and Training); Prof. Dr. Pham Van Dien, President of Vietnam National University of Forestry; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le Xuan Phuong, Deputy Head of the International Cooperation Department at Vietnam National University of Forestry; and representatives from Ho Chi Minh City University of Agriculture and Forestry, Ho Chi Minh City Open University, and Gia Dinh University. International guests included representatives from Rajamangala University of Technology Lanna (Thailand). The conference was sponsored by Indruino Technical Solutions Co., Ltd., Tan Hoa Technical Trade & Service Co., Ltd., Springer, IEEE, and IEEE SMC. Additionally, the conference was attended by authors and researchers from both domestic and international universities/institutions.

According to the organizing committee, this year's GTSD 2024 conference received over 300 submissions from authors representing more than 10 countries, including Vietnam, South Korea, France, Germany, Poland, Taiwan, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Sri Lanka, India, and Cambodia. Following a rigorous peer-review process, the committee selected 17 presentation-only papers and 202 papers for publication in the conference proceedings by reputable publishers such as VNUHCM Press, Springer, and IEEE Xplore. High-quality papers have been chosen for inclusion in the Lecture Notes in Networks and Systems series by Springer, which is indexed by Scopus. Notably, the conference featured two distinguished keynote speakers who have made significant contributions to their respective fields: Prof. Dr. Lionel Vayssieres, Director of the International Research Center on Renewable Energy at Xi'an Jiaotong University (China), and Prof. Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Thanh, Head of the Department of Applied Informatics at Wroclaw University of Science and Technology (Poland).
Prof. Dr. Lionel Vayssieres, Director of the International Research Center for Renewable Energy at Xi'an Jiaotong University (China), is a co-author of over 100 publications cited more than 16,500 times. He ranks in the top 1% of scientists in Material Science and the top 2% of scientists worldwide from 2020-2023 (according to Stanford University), and is in the top 0.19% of scientists in Nanoscience & Nanotechnology. He has 8 highly cited papers in the Essential Science Indicators (ESI), 5 of which he is the first author, and is the most cited researcher in China in Material Science & Engineering. His presentation on “Advanced Low-Cost Materials & Devices for Sustainable Energy Generation” addresses the critical need for transitioning to sustainable environmental, energy, and economic policies. He proposes breakthrough solutions for clean hydrogen production through seawater splitting using low-cost, non-toxic devices combined with abundant, recyclable materials like oxides, nitrides, sulfides, and other catalysts, to produce hydrogen efficiently and sustainably.

Presenting the topic “Computational Collective Intelligence and Applications in Social Media,” Prof. Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Thanh, Head of the Department of Applied Informatics, Wroclaw University of Science and Technology, Poland, ranks in the top 2% of most cited scientists, according to Stanford University and Elsevier in 2019. He received the First Class Order of Merit from the President of Poland in 2024 for his significant contributions to the Republic of Poland. His presentation highlights the positive impacts of diversity and independence on collective work efficiency. Diversity brings a wealth of ideas and perspectives, enabling groups to approach problems from various angles and find innovative and effective solutions. Independence ensures that individuals can think and make decisions without being influenced by others, reducing groupthink and enhancing creativity. His presentation also focuses on applying collective intelligence methods to maximize diversity and independence, optimizing decision-making processes, solving problems, and promoting the sustainable development of organizations.

GTSD 2024 is not only an opportunity for scientists from around the world to share their knowledge and experiences on the latest green technologies and sustainable development, but also marks the beginning of a long-term, sustainable, and effective collaboration among global educators. The common goal is to protect the environment and natural resources by conducting new research that can be applied to society, while also teaching, training, and shaping the younger generation to conserve, build, and develop a green and intelligent world.
The successful organization of the GTSD 2024 conference once again reinforces HCMUTE's brand and reputation, establishing its significant influence within the academic community in Asia and globally.
