On the afternoon of February 14, 2017 in Meeting Room I of Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology and Education, the collaboration agreement signing ceremony between HCMUTE and Korea’s Doowon Technical University was held. The event was blessed with the presence of Doowon Technical University’s representatives: Mr. Kim Young Il, Deputy President, the honored teachers as deans of the faculties of Automobile, Beauty Art, Cooking, and WCC21 delegates. HCMUTE had Mr. Ngo Van Thuyen, the university’s Deputy President; Mr. Nguyen Vu Lan, Deputy Head of the International Affairs Office, and teachers in the management, lecturers from the faculties of Garment Technology and Fashion and Automotive Engineering.
In his speech at the signing ceremony, Mr. Kim Young Il extended his gratitude to HCMUTE for creating favorable circumstances for Doowon Technical University students to have a meaningful exchange session with UTE students, and he also expressed his hope that the frequency of gatherings as such will increase thanks to the student exchange program.
The signing ceremony was the precursor to the student exchange program between Doowon Technical University and HCMUTE, which will initially begin with majors belonging to the faculties of Garment Technology and Fashion and Automotive Engineering and afterward extend to the other corresponding faculties of the two institutions with the short-term exchange program of 5 to 7 days. During the program the students will visit Doowon students’ learning environment, get exposed to Korean culture and introduced to opportunities as well as orientation to work at Korean corporations, and study the Korean language. This short exchange program will be the basis for the later long-term program of 1.5 to 2 years between the two schools. Students eligible for the program will be awarded full scholarships from Doowon University along with HCMUTE’s support.

On HCMUTE’s behalf, Mr. Ngo Van Thuyen, as Deputy President, expressed his delight in collaborating with the Korean partner. He affirmed that HCMUTE will make way for all conditions possible to assist students from Doowon University to mingle and study with UTE students as well as learning and exploring Vietnamese cultural values during the program.
As shared by Mr. Ngo Van Thuyen, students’ demand for Korean study is enormous and the demand of Korean companies in Vietnam on human capital with both professional knowledge and foreign language proficiency is running very high. He expected that the bilateral relation between the two universities will not stop at the student exchange program but will open up avenues for plenty of further international exchange programs for students from the two institutions in the foreseeable future.
