In the series of activities to celebrate the eighth Vietnam Book Day (21/04/2014-21/04/2021), a talk “Learning English from books” was formally held at HCMUTE on April 27 of 2021 and attracted many students.

In the talk, it was an honor to warmly welcome 2 speakers:

The 2 speakers are role models of studying English. The TOEIC total scores of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ngo Van Thuyen and MSc. Bui Xuan Bach were 985 and 990 respectively. According to them, reading books and foreign literary works made a significant contribution to their achievements.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ngo Van Thuyen believed learning English through books was a helpful method which helped us to broaden our knowledge naturally and interestingly. He added it was inherently tough to read English stories or novels and even more difficult to read specialized documents. Thus, students needed dogged perseverance and chose English materials relevant to their interest.

Thanks to their sharing, the speakers received complete interaction from the students. Students’ questions and difficulties in English learning process were discussed openly in the talk.

Students were actively asking questions

The end of the talk was the awarding part of “Introducing books by video clips” competition with the theme “Books – change creative thinking and start up business 2021.” The competition was previously organized by HCMUTE Library via online so as to help students to improve their awareness, habits and reading skills as well as provide a practical and educational environment and encourage their passion for books.
