On April 14th, 2021, at the Grand Hall of the Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology and Education, there was the conference “Save the power, shape your future” held by Energy Support Program GIZ together with the Faculty of Vehicle and Energy Engineering.

 

The conference on “Career orientation in Energy Efficiency sector” with interesting talks from the guest speakers attracted attention of many undergraduates from HCMUTE, especially the students from the Renewable Energy Major of the Vehicle and Energy Engineering Faculty.

 

In recent years, there has been a rapid increase in energy demand. Embracing future development trends, the HCMUTE held the conference with the aim of helping undergraduates from the Major of Renewable Energy and those wishing to learn or develop careers in energy sector to gain better understanding of the development of energy efficiency sector in Vietnam and over the world as well as job opportunities for energy industry.

The conference heartily welcomed Dr. Huynh Phuoc Son, Dean of the Vehicle and Energy Engineering Faculty, Dr. Le Minh Nhut, Vice Dean of the Vehicle and Energy Engineering Faculty, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Đang Thanh Trung, Head of Renewable Energy Department and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hoang An Quoc, Head of Science Technology and International Affairs Office.

The Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology and Education extended a warm welcome to Speaker Markus Bissel, Leader of Energy Efficiency Component, Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Project (EVEF), Speaker Laura Lindoro, Sustainable Energy Advisor of the Delegation of the European Union to Vietnam, Speaker Tony Hung, Manager of the Supply Chain Sustainability at New Balance Company, Speaker Đinh Ngọc Khánh, Head of Data Science Department at TP&P Technology and Speaker Nguyễn Phương Mai, Managing Director of Navigos Search.

 

Opening the conference, Dr. Huynh Phuoc Son, Dean of Vehicle and Energy Engineering Faculty, representing the Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology and Education expressed the warmest thanks to Energy Support Program GIZ for connecting the university to the leading experts in energy sector. The university also gave a special thanks to the guest speakers, Mr. Markus Bissel and Mrs. Laura Lindoro, representing the Delegation of the European Union to Vietnam at the conference.

 

At the conference, speaker Laura Lindoro, Sustainable Energy Advisor of the Delegation of the European Union to Vietnam, gave a brief overview of the development of energy industry in the member countries of European Union. With a broad vision for energy sector, the careers as energy auditors and energy managers will be focused in the future. Therefore, undergraduates need preparation of knowledge and skills to seize job opportunities.

“When will Vietnam develop the sector of energy efficiency?”. “What are the policies supporting Vietnam in the field of energy development?”. All the questions of students were answered by Mr. Markus Bissel through his talk about “The development of energy efficiency in Vietnam and Europe, and the activities of EU to support the development of energy efficiency in Vietnam.”

With the purpose of seizing job opportunities and developing in energy sector, undergraduates have paid special attention to Artificial Intelligence (AI) but have not approached a lot of information about it. Realizing the interest of the students in this field, speaker Dinh Ngoc Khanh, Head of Data Science Department at TP&P Technology provided participants with an interesting talk about “Artificial intelligence and its applications in energy efficiency - Career paths in the future”. Through his talk, the undergraduates had a better understanding of applying artificial intelligence to energy efficiency sector.

Undergraduates not only obtained knowledge of the career field but also gained experiences to become experts in energy sector through the presentation of speaker Nguyen Phuong Mai, Managing Director of Navigos Search. With the talk about “How to become a successful candidate in energy efficiency sector”, she helped undergraduates to acquire necessary soft skills for their career in the future.

 

Following the performance of speaker Nguyen Phuong Mai, there was another interesting talk with the topic “A working day of an energy auditor” presented by speaker Tony Hùng. Through the talks of the experts in energy sector in the country and abroad, undergraduates had a chance to approach and gain better knowledge of energy efficiency sector as well as the jobs of energy auditors and energy managers.

 

After the presentations of the speakers, undergraduates had opportunities to participate in games and receive many gifts from the program.

Representing the university, Dr. Nguyen Van Trang, Vice Dean of Vehicle and Energy Engineering Faculty, made a speech closing the conference “Save the power, shape your future”. The conference successfully ended with a myriad of useful information shared by the speakers which helped undergraduates opt for suitable careers in the future, especially in energy efficiency sector.
